“After having a child I needed to find a new direction in my work life. I have always loved textiles and garment making and learned all the traditional fibre skills as a child. Crochet in particular fascinates me as it cannot be machine made, and the possibilities of what can be created with a simple hook and yarn are infinite. Adding my love of music, the festival scene, and alternative lifestyles — I created PEA+POD." (Luisa Bacelar)
Purpose & Mission
"I’m inspired by the slow fashion movement, and my small-scale artisan production seeks to re-connect people with the fact that all clothing is handmade, and we should demand to know who made it and what conditions they are making it in.
Equally, encouraging mindful consumption, buying less but buying ethically, taking better care of what we do buy and striving for better environmental practices are core principles behind my work." (Luisa Bacelar)
Location of Creation or Assembly
Cotton and organic cotton.
"Our packaging is as eco-friendly and plastic-free as possible. Smaller items are packaged in a kraft paper box. Larger items are wrapped in tissue paper." (Luisa Bacelar)
Method of Creation
"I make the items myself, at home and solely to order and keep minimal stock of materials." (Luisa Bacelar)
Use & Maintenance
“To keep your crochet items in good shape, hand wash in cold water only. No dryer, no wringing, and ideally, lay flat to dry.” (Luisa Bacelar)
