    Brand Story

“Armazém das Malhas is a family run business with more than 50 years of history. Its activity began in the 40's, in Lisbon, with the commercialisation and production of textile clothing.

With the mission to preserve what the city's shops had available back in the day, Armazém das Malhas is currently operated by us, the original founder's grandchildren. With a distinctive design and keeping with tradition, we are proud of preserving memories of the old national trade, promoting and developing improvements whenever we can.

We are a socially responsible brand and are always making an effort to find ways to reduce our ecological footprint through conscious production and design. All production is monitored from beginning to end, never using any components that may harm the environment or cause labour exploitation.

You can count on a varied range of cotton and wool fabrics, cut in a practical and versatile manner, produced in Portugal.

Come in, and enjoy your journey through time.” (Tiago & Tomás Marques Luis)

    Purpose & Mission

“To create consumer awareness. Reorganise processes and adjust standards, so that consumers in the coming decades become more aware of their choices, using alternative solutions to purchases.

We care deeply about how each product is made and its impact on the environment, and we have intentionally built our supply chain to support responsible production.

We embed social and environmental responsibility into each product from beginning to end and we want you to wear our pieces for years, even decades, to come. That’s why we source the finest materials and factories for our timeless products.” (Tiago & Tomás Marques Luis)

“Our slippers are fully made of upcycled materials and the soles of our boots and sandals are made of recycled tires. As it isn't easy to guarantee availability of the ideal characteristic of wool we need for our jumpers and cardigans, we source our wool from an italian supplier and knit it in Portugal.” (Tiago & Tomás Marques Luis)

    Recycled natural kraft paper.

    Method of Creation

“We have worked with around 10 trusted Portuguese suppliers since the 1960’s and 1970’s. Working relationships that started with my grandfather, were passed down to my father and now to me and my brother. Most of these suppliers do not exceed 10 workers, they are small family businesses.

The few slightly larger factories that produce our wool products have fantastic facilities with solar energy and highly efficient and modern machines. All factories abide to EU and Portuguese worker safety and responsibility standards.” (Tiago & Tomás Marques Luis)

    Use & Maintenance

“Before washing or storing your knitted garment, remember to empty its pockets. We recommend you turn your garment inside out before washing it. This will prolong the life of your cherished piece.

Some knitwear items do not like water at all. Please check the tags, and if you are in any doubt, take it to your eco-friendly dry cleaner.” (Tiago & Tomás Marques Luis)
